"I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on, you know Him and have seen Him." John 14: 6-7 |

It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in my house. Decorations are going up, cookies are baking, there is the glow of candles, carols are sung, the grandchildren are counting down the days and the joy is spreading. Everyone can experience the joy if only they would let go of all the worldly junk that has harden their hearts. Christmas is a time when we can let go of our adultness and become childlike once again. Can you think of a better way to let Christ into your heart? Jesus said in Luke 18:16-17: “Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who does not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Wow, unless we receive God like a little child, we will not receive it? So how can we do that when it has been so many years since we were children? Let’s take some simple steps to put things into perspective. First of all, we have to not think of God in human terms. Far too often, we try to picture God in human terms. But let’s look at how God sees things. In the beginning, God created order. God was God in the fullness of Who and What God is. Not human but omnipotent so all powerful that God created something out of nothing. He created this universe, this earth and all that is on it not because He needed something to do, but because of love. God already had the angels and God had God. We see in Genesis 1:2: that the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters in the beginning of creation. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them (Genesis 1: 27). When we read Genesis, we are given a vision of the creativeness of God. We see a glimpse of the mind of God, what a beautiful world He created and His idea of what paradise was. He created things for food, flowers for beauty and man and woman to procreate. God created abundance and He created things to supply abundance. The trees, the fruits, the vegetables, the creatures and humans, were all made so that they could reproduce and always have more than enough. But sadly we lost our way and began blaming each other and God for our own mistakes. Throughout the Old (Jewish) Testament, we see that God at times lost patience with humans. He placed such good things for us, yet we succumbed to the flesh instead of God. Humans couldn’t or wouldn’t understand God because they didn’t and still don’t want to accept that gift that God had given them. God punished mankind, as was His right, but keeps rescuing them when they would repent from their sins and turn back to Him. God foresaw man’s inability or desire to accept His love freely, and within His own scope of laws and consequences, promised throughout the lives of His people, that He Himself would work out our Salvation with His own hand. The Lord looked and was displeased that there was no justice. He saw that there was no one, He was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so His own arm worked Salvation for Him and His own righteousness sustained Him (Isaiah 59:16) This is God incarnate, embodied in the flesh of humankind, teaching us that His way, His truth and His life was all that is needed. But here are the real blessings that we learn from Christmas, Jesus, God incarnate, coming to us as an infant, a baby, helpless born of a mother who was a virgin and was not married when He was conceived. He was placed in a manger, not in a palace, the news of His birth was told by the angels to shepherds the lowliest people in the middle of a field on a silent night, and kings from far away came to worship Him. His own people didn’t understand the clues He put in the prophets to write. God didn’t come as an adult but as a baby, so as to teach us how to come to Him. God didn’t come in grandeur but in lowly circumstances to show us what was important to God. Jesus came as an average person, in disgrace as to His conception, denied a warm room to be born in, with angels singing to people just like you and me, about His coming. This is the Good News of our Salvation, Jesus Christ, born of a woman, just as any of us. He lived a quiet life until the His time to bring about His arm to work out our Salvation. The arms that held Him were Mary’s and Joseph’s, who listened to God and followed Him. Jesus said we are to become like little children. He did no different. He learned what it was to be human and showed us how to be God-like. He taught us things that were not normal, to turn the other cheek, to give freely to others, to love even those you hate, and most of all, forgiveness to those who sin against you. He did all the things that He asks you to do. This year, look into your heart and find the child within you. Let God’s comfort and joy come into your heart and learn to let go of all that is behind you, and start again as a child. Be truly reborn in the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let each day that is coming up to Christmas and to the twelfth day of Christmas, Epiphany, be filled with wonder and awe at the coming of Christ into your life. Come let us adore Him, for He brings us goodness and light, join the angels on high and sing “Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth goodwill towards men” and celebrate the coming of our Lord. “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you. He is Christ the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:10-12 |
