"I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. If you really knew Me, you would know My Father as well. From now on, you know Him and have seen Him." John 14: 6-7 |

| Searching in the Sermon on the Mount, Part IV “But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:20-21 Where is your treasure? Is it in wealth, money, acquiring things for your self, gaining more and more, stuff? Sadly, our lives are lived with thoughts that we need more and more in order for our lives to be complete. But what do we really need in life? We have taken simple needs and blown them into greed. We need a house, but we want a bigger house, filled with all the things to make life easy. We need a car, but we want a “cool” car that makes us look good. We need food, but we don’t want to grow our food, cook our food or even serve our food. We have gone far beyond the basics of life and have come to think that things are more important than God. We are far to interested in bigger TV’s, I Pods, X Boxes, internet and texting on our phones, the brand of clothes and shoes we wear, spending less and less time being with each other, and more and more time, connected with things. Our treasure is to be heaven, building our lives on the things that are of God. Not searching for the next new thing, not idolizing the next new singer, not vicariously living our lives though desperate housewives. These are all things that lead us away from God and further into the clutches of the evil one. “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness” (Matthew 6:22-23). Are you so full of stuff, that you have put God somewhere in the background? Are you convinced that as long as you say that you are a Christian that will be enough? Are you so involved in other things, that your light of God has grown dim, allowing the evil one to bring you into his darkness so that your treasure is his nature and your heart belongs to the evil one? Come out of the dark and open yourself to God’s light in your life and your darkness will change into the light of God and shine for all to see. We cannot serve both God and money. We have to serve God, gain His wisdom and put Him first and all things will follow. We worry way too much. We worry about how we are going to pay the rent, put gas in our car, if we will still have a job or if we will find a job. Stop the worrying and trust in God. “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear” (Matthew 6:25). We have become people that worry. We worry ourselves into depression, into sexual sin, into debt, into things that take us so far from God and then we drink to excess, take drugs and become addicted to both, we have ended up with more than 25 sexually transmitted diseases because we cannot control our sexual urges. We have allowed worry to take us into the excesses of the devil and he’s loving it. There is more feasting in hell on lost souls today because of the slow fade of God’ s way. More people have lost their souls, their eternal life with God, because they have allowed the evil one to creep into their lives and take us on the wrong road. We can’t continue to feast upon the evil and expect to go to heaven. We can’t continue to worry about the things that the evil one is causing us to focus on. We have to focus on God, His Way, His Truth and His Life. Are we not worth more than the sparrows? God feeds them, they do not worry and we are worth more to God then them. He made us in His image. “Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?” (Matthew 6:27) Worry is the trap of the evil one. If he can get you to worry, he can take and make you think that God doesn’t care about you or what you are going through. Don’t be fooled, worry will get you nowhere. Don’t have such little faith that you fail yourself and God. “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). Make yourself learn to put God first for He will not make you do so. He wants you to choose to surrender your lives, willingly, completely, and freely, foregoing all the worry and all the stuff of life. Worry will only kill you. It will kill faith in God and will lead you to hell. The devil uses worry to lead you away from all that is God. The evil one makes you think that God doesn’t love you and that you don’t need God. We have to remember that God is the Creator. Believe in the first four words in the Bible and you will be able to put all worry aside. Nothing comes before God and everything else is meaningless. “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor. Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11). Solomon denied himself nothing. He let himself do whatever was set before him, he allowed the evil one to think that he could do anything and still be right with God. But he found that it was all meaningless: “Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for it is now that God favors what you do. Always be clothed in white and always anoint your head with oil. Enjoy life with your wife, whom you love, all the days of this meaningless life that God has give you under the sun—all your meaningless days (Ecclesiastes 9:7-9). All things are meaningless, if God is not at the center, the first in your life. Solomon was given everything from God, because in the beginning Solomon asked God for wisdom. But then Solomon allowed the evil one to creep in and he followed the devil. Solomon came to the point of looking at all he had done in his life and found that his pursuits of happiness led him into a meaningless life. Are you allowing your pursuit of happiness into a meaningless life? Don’t get caught in the trap that the evil one has set. Flee from all that takes you away from God. Today is a new day and a new beginning. Throw away the worry in your life that takes you from God. Work second by second, minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, until your life is completely focused on God. Pray without ceasing so that you flee from worry and all that the devil is. “Now fear the Lord and serve Him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:14-15). Don’t choose the American idol, don’t choose sexual sin, and don’t choose to murder or use the Lord’s Name in vain. Don’t choose to work on the Sabbath, but give glory and praise to God. Choose this day, God, the Way, the Truth and the Life. |
