| Singing Praises To The Lord My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul. Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of You, O Lord, among the peoples. For great is Your love, higher than the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let Your glory be over all the earth. Psalm 108:1-5 No matter what is going on in your life, it’s always good to sing out praise to the Lord. Nothing takes me higher, than putting everything else on the backburner and depending on the song, standing high, or kneeling low, I find that I grow closer to God. Singing also brings lifts me up when my spirit is low. There are just so many good songs, whether it is a classic like, “Amazing Grace,” or something new like, “Hope Now” by Addison Road. I sing in my car, the shower, my house, I’ve even sing while walking through the store, softly of course. Let’s look at “Hope Now.” Everything rides on hope now Everything rides on faith somehow When the world has broken me down Your love sets me free I think this fits what is going on in the world today. In the midst of a broken society, we have hope. The world has opened its arms wide to the evil one. We look around and see all that God wants for good in our lives, being trampled on. The people have spoken, but it’s only good enough for the office of president. When it comes to the propositions, those that are controlled by the evil one are screaming out, they don’t care that a ban on gay marriages and that marriage is between a man and a woman, they want it null and void. Sorry to say, can’t have it both ways. I didn’t vote for Obama for president, but I’m not screaming “Foul” because my choice didn’t get in. I will pray for him as I have for all the presidents and leaders. It took years before woman had the right to vote, before they had a right to their own life. Sadly, most women don’t even know the struggles that these women faced as they fought for our basic rights. These women didn’t want to be thought of a property, forced to submit or driven to abortion, they felt their lives and the lives of their children were important enough to face the challenges that laid ahead of them. Jesus freely talked to women and used them throughout His ministry. From the woman at the well, to the woman who anointed His feet, to Mary choosing it better to sit and listen to Jesus than to be busy preparing things Jesus showed that women were worthy. Toby Mac has a great song called “Lose My Soul.” It goes like this: I don’t want to gain the whole world and lose my soul. So many people are losing their souls by allowing the evil one into their lives and they don’t even know it. They are too caught up in worry, trying to get all that they can in life, and they don’t even put any effort into building their relationship with God. There is no soul searching, but there is a lot of “stuff” searching. Another song that I sing over and over is Praise God From Whom All Blessings Flow. It’s a simple song, four lines and goes like this: Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, Praise Him all creatures here below, Praise Him above ye heavenly host, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. King David wrote the Psalms as a way to express his feelings in what he was going through and to bring praise to God. Psalm 33 says: Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise Him. Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to Him on the ten-stringed lyre. Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. Because the people wanted a man instead of God as their king, they got what they asked for, a man who said he followed God, but did not do what God wanted him to do. That was why David was anointed before Saul was dead. Saul, the king that the people wanted God to give them, chased David and wanted to kill him. Even while Saul sought David’s life, David still brought thanks and praise to God in all his circumstances. Songs are a wonderful way to bring praise in all things. Building 429 in their song, Above It All, sing these words: Lift me up above it all ~ I’m feeling broken and alone Don’t let me turn to stone ~ Lift my heart above it all~ I’ve lost my hope tonight ~ And I’m praying for the strength to carry on~ Lord lift me above it all. That’s what we need to do, ask God to lift us up above all the chaos of the world. All the things that take us away from God, and bring us to feeling broken and lost, and to lose hope, and ask for His strength to carry on through it all. Songs can help you to focus on what you need to do as a follower of Christ. In the song, I Surrender All: All to Jesus I surrender; humbly at his feet I bow, worldly pleasures all forsaken; take me, Jesus, take me now. We need to give it all to God, forsaking the world and it’s flesh pleasure, and discover the spiritual love that is ours, if only we choose to open the door that God is knocking on.
