| THE JOURNEY May 2011 Well we have begun our Journey again. We are on a short Journey to try out the new motor home to see what needs fixing and what runs right. We are so excited about the blessing that the Lord has given to us. We want to thank Linda and TJ for selling us the motor home. We are now in a 1991 Southwind motor home. We bought it about a month ago and have been working on it along with some other things. We are praising God that we were able to let some dear friends who needed a place to live the 1972 Dodge motor home. We moved them and the motor home as the Lord blessed them with a job and an inexpensive place in which to live in the motor home. We pray that the Lord will bless them as God has blessed us. Henry was approved for disability and we thank You Father for providing for us. We have trusted in You and will continue to trust in You. It’s been a pretty wet time as we have been out. It’s been mostly 2 days of rain and 1 day of sun. Coming from Arizona where we don’t have a lot of rain, it’s been a blessing. We have been blessed that the Lord has surrounded us and kept us safe during our travels. In many places that we have been, tornados have come after we have left. Right now we are in Audubon, Iowa staying at a campground called Albert the Bull. Albert is in the playground and stands about 30 feet high. He weighs about 45,000 pounds. It’s a nice little campground with approximately 50 spaces. We have met a couple of people here. There are more coming in as this is a popular park for locals and their families and friends. We are hoping to meet with people this weekend. There is no grocery store here and so we have to travel about 25 miles to the town of Atlantic which is south of here. It’s a nice ride and we love looking at the farms and the newly planted fields. Charming farmhouses and the barns are scattered across the rolling hills. Some of them are very old farms while others are bright and newer looking. There is one big 2 story old red brick house trimmed with white windows and shutters. It stands off in the distance, looking very stately and regal. I love the way some of the old barns look, the wood is very gray and weather worn. I have painted a barn like that years ago and have always been enamored with the simple beauty of these. It reminds me of days gone by when life was a whole lot simpler. We found a wonderful restaurant in Atlantic. It’s called La Herrudura Mexican Restaurant at 1508 E. 7th Street. The owners were wonderful, they were our servers and we talked a bit. The food was delicious and flavorful and very reasonable priced. If you ever find yourself in Atlantic, Iowa it is well worth it to stop. We are also learning about little things with the motor home and with humidity. First of all I forgot that you have to dry towels out completely as they become musty really quickly. We have lived in Arizona a long time and have forgotten that a little damp never seems to dry out and phew! Do they smell! We thought that we had all the leaks found but we were wrong! Poor Jim, our friend who has come with us, he was the one who discovered the rain coming in all on him! We bought some caulking and temporary have fixed the leak! We are also having some issues with the propane alarm. Henry thinks that the regulator may be bad as he has checked for leaks and has found none. While we were in Almagordo, New Mexico, we had a gentleman come and fix the propane valve to the refrigerator so that we could run it on propane. We have taken the refrigerator off of propane temporarily and put it on electric while we are here at Albert the Bull campground. We are going to be here until the 1st of June. Henry is thinking that we may have to take the regulator off and replace it when we get back to Arizona in June. We are also having an issue with the level indicators for the black and grey water tanks. Even after we dump them, they are still reading full. We need to redo some moldings around the cabinets as well. One of the blinds needs to be fixed but with my knee I can’t do it. Oh yes, my knee. Well before we left, my knee was acting up. Just bursitis but I could not stand on my leg. Then the Monday after Easter, I was doing something and snap! I tore my outside ligament in my knee! Ouch, it has really been painful. We have been keeping it wrapped and I have been staying off my leg and keeping it raised up as much as possible. It is slowing healing. In fact I am not having it wrapped but the pain is still there but not as unbearable as it was. I try to stay off of it and do only little things. I cannot bend it well, but it is better than at first as I could not bend it at all. So we really have not been able to do as much in the ministry as I had hoped. Well that can only mean that God wants us to concentrate on getting the motor home right and being with Jim! So I am working on little things to prepare for when we leave again in late June. We have a wedding to go to in Arizona. Jim’s granddaughter Crystal and her fiancé Luke are getting married at the end of June. We are going to be heading back to Arizona after a quick stop to see our son Henry and his wife Monica who is home for a short time from Iraq. She will be heading back there and we are praying that she will be home soon from there. Please keep Monica and all our men and women who are serving in the military in your prayers. Henry and Monica have 2 beautiful boys, Isaiah and Branson. Then we are going back to Arizona to fix what needs fixing on this motor home and after the wedding we are heading back out. We are going to be back in New England but will first stop to celebrate the 4th of July in New York State with our daughter Beth and her family and some friends. We will then go out into the New England area and help out in some local ministries. We are hoping to preach at some churches as well. So far we have stayed in New Mexico and Illinois and Iowa this trip. We boondocked at Walmart a couple of times! It was fun to be part of the pack out in the parking lot! Boondocking is where you do not plug in for power, you use your generator for power but you cannot leave it on all night. You have to shut it off so then you are using your batteries. We cannot do this on the way back I don’t think, unless we can figure out this propane problem. On our 1972 motor home, it did not have the propane alarm. But the 1991 does. You can’ t just shut it off, because when it is off you cannot use the propane. But if we need to, we will remove the sensor and run it just as in the old motor home. When we get back to Arizona we are going to have a new regulator put on the propane tank and have new valves put in just to be on the safe side. Henry has checked them for leaks and there are none. We were up in Nashua, Iowa last week and we went to The Little Brown Church In The Vale. It’s a beautiful church that the song, Church in the Wildwood was written for. It has a wonderful story. William Pitts wrote the song after coming upon the vale. He thought it was a beautiful place for a church and then he went away from the area. He moved back to the area and found that a church had been built right where he wrote the song. We went to services on Sunday and met Pastor Jim and he gave us a tour and history lesson about the church and the area after the services. At the end of the service, the pastor’s wife asked Jim to ring the church bells for the end of service! The song had been a favorite of his wife Wanda’s. She passed away last November and we pray this brought some healing to him. Jim and Wanda were married 45 years. While we have been out on the road, Jim celebrated their 46th anniversary and the 6th month anniversary of her passing. It has been a real joy to have Jim with us. We also went over to The Field of Dreams. It looked different as the cornfields were just planted and so there were no stalks of standing corn. I have always loved that movie. It’s something about the love of baseball (actually old time baseball, as I think it is much too money hungry for my liking now) and the following of a voice whispering in your ear that endears it to me. I walked the bases, pretending with my cane to “bat an invisible ball” and had Henry take pictures of me on all the bases. It’s always been important for me to hear God’s voice and to listen to Him. This Journey is an example of following God’s voice. A lot of family and friends did not think God would get us out on the road, but Henry and I remained faithful to the vision He gave us and trusted God would fulfill His will for us. This Journey is about sharing the love of God in whatever ways He places us to share. While we were at the Field of Dreams we met a man named Bill who was visiting the field once again. He had been there many years ago when his daughter was about 2 and now she is getting married. He was spending some time reflecting the time that had passed. We talked for a bit and we said we would pray for him and his daughter and soon to be son in law. So we have been lifting them up in prayer each night. We also met Cathy who asked us about my knee as her daughter had hurt hers. We pray we gave her some encouragement with what I was going through with my knee in regards to her daughter. We also told her that we would lift them up in prayer. It’s so wonderful to meet people and to pray for them. |
