Our God Knows How We Feel
People often wonder if God is there. They look around and see all the pain, the hurt, evil people being rewarded for doing evil and good people not. They wonder if it is worth it all. They wonder how God can allow so much pain in life. With all that we see and hear from those around us, we can sometimes have doubts about God.
Why does God allow so much suffering in the world? How are we to cope with it all? We actually have a lot of responsibility in our pain and suffering. But how can that be possible? While God is the Master Planner, we are the ones who put His plan into action. And there’s the catch. God plans everything in life. He puts in front of us, lessons that we are to learn. Some lessons are easy, while others are hard. We react differently in each circumstance. And the strength of our faith in God determines it all.
When we read the book of Job, we see a man of great faith. Life is going good for Job and he has no worries about life. But as we know, the evil one wants to cause trouble. He doesn’t like seeing Job so perfect in his faith and his life. So Satan proposes to God a plan to test Job. God has enough belief in Job’s faithfulness that He allows the test to go through. Job loses everything in his life and becomes ill he does not blame God. After much suffering, Job questions God. His friends helped to push him to question God. His friends decided that they knew God mind and that Job must be hiding some sort of sin because they believed that bad things do not happen to good people.
Through the ages, people have always judged other people according to their standards and not God’s. We have always had those who thought (think) they know more than others, some times these are people who were born in “good” families, those in positions of authority (priests, Pharisees, clerics, ministers, officers of the law, elected officials, etc…), and those who have college degrees. They see the average person as uneducated and feel that they could not possibly have brains enough to think for themselves. But we are all equal in God’s eyes. We are all His children and should treat each other with love and respect. We are to seek God to learn to live life according to what God’s will is. (Proverbs 3:5,6) 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
God has experienced life through Jesus. God came down to this earth He created and lived life as one of His creations. He experienced sadness, joy, heartache, anger, all the emotions that we do. But no matter what happened to Him here on earth, Jesus did not sin. That’s what we need to remember as we go through life. God has experienced all that we go through. We do not have a Creator Who can’t understand what it is like to go through each and everyday as a human.
These are a few examples of Jesus experiencing life. In Matthew 4:1-3 – Temptation -1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, He was hungry. 3The tempter came to Him and said, "If You are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread." In Mark 6:2,3 – Questions about His background and education - "Where did this Man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given Him, that He even does miracles! 3 Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's Son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren't His sisters here with us?" And they took offense at Him. In Luke 22:2-6 – People not liking how Jesus was doing His job, and is betrayed - 2and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. 3Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. In John 11 we read about Jesus’ sorrow when Lazarus died - 33When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come along with her also weeping, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled. 34"Where have you laid him?" He asked. "Come and see, Lord," they replied.
35Jesus wept.
Our God is fully aware of all that happens in each of our lives. He is with us every step of the way. He gives us free will to choose the direction we take in each lesson that God gives us. When we study the Word of God, we find the answers to the questions. Coming to God daily, helps us keep our eyes focused on God. Sometimes we feel overwhelmed and just want to cry. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to feel sad. But when you have a good cry, pray to God as you do, and know that God is holding you. He feels your sadness and gladness. He wants to be a part of your life. He will not force His way in, He wants you to come to Him and accept Him. Accepting Jesus as your Saviour is a daily thing. It keeps happening. Going to God and asking forgiveness for your sins, is a daily thing. Life in God happens each day and as you grow in your relationship with God, you will find inner peace through all that happens in life. You grow in confidence of God’s love and you trust that God will see you through each lesson in life.
In the end of the book of Job, we find that God answers Job’s questioning. He reminds Job of all that He has done in creation, in controlling the things of the earth, and Job finds humility. (Job 42:1-6) 1 Then Job replied to the LORD: 2 "I know that You can do all things; no plan of Yours can be thwarted. 3 You asked, 'Who is this that obscures My counsel without knowledge?' Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. 4 "You said, 'Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer Me.' 5 My ears had heard of You but now my eyes have seen You. 6 Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes." And in the end God blessed Job in the latter part of his life with more than before.
So as you look around and see all that is happening in the world, know that it is the result of the choices that people are making to do with God’s will. Satan will do all he can to cloud your vision of God. He will do all he can to destroy your soul. Be “reborn” each day in accepting Jesus as your Saviour and asking God to forgive your sins. Read the Word of God so that you will find God’s truth. You will grow in wisdom and knowledge of the Lord.
